What is different between the two sharing sites?
Polyvore has sets. Wanelo does not. This is where you can add a variety of items, usually for some theme and make a pretty picture out of it. They love the magazine look! You can join groups and contest with your sets. For a creative person like me, Polyvore is addictive when making sets and one can easily spent all day there. Or longer!
On Wanelo, you can apply to place your store in their marketplace. When an item sells, Wanelo will take 10% out for their commission. This would work if you were selling the physical product that you ship. However if you are a shopkeeper selling from an online print on demand store with no overhead because it is your design on a product, then this would not necessary be ideal for you to do.
There are other differences. Presently, I have been active on Polyvore and established myself there. On Wanelo, I have worked on it for the first time on 7/30/2015. So far I began a few collections. But only one collection that has many product items and this collection is connected to several online POD stores with travel mugs and water bottles.
There is a limit per day to follow people on Wanelo. Since I have not been active and have not promoted this site until July 30th, only a small amount of people are following me. I have also signed on as Giftsyoutreasure for my name instead of the more popular Sandyspider or Sandy Mertens name. This could throw off those whom I have known over the years online. Only time will tell.
A sample set on Wanelo. The links below will lead to the travel mug and water bottle sites.

That's very interesting comparison, i have almost forgotten polyvore, i have joined Wanelo but havent spent much time there, i was just wondering whether people go to such sites for selecting a product they wish to buy? I am not sure though.
ReplyDeleteI have added a few products too at wanelo but it has all been very passive there
I often wonder the same thing myself. Some people swear by it. I have not notice it helping yet. But maybe it takes longer for some.
DeleteI use both Polyvore and Wanelo. I love creating sets on Polyvore and am very actively participating in contests.
ReplyDeleteBut on Wanelo, I only share my items and never do anything with them. I don't really like their collection tool very much.
I have only started on Wanelo and I do have to agree with you. Right now I am experiencing errors with not being able to follow anyone. They do not answer their email.
DeleteI would want to see how helpful these promotion methods are in generating sales before I jump in. I'm already overextended with social networking. How is this better than blogging, twitter, and Facebook?
ReplyDeleteTo me it is an extension on promoting myself. Guess it goes with the eggs in the basket thing. I would not say it is better, but another place where hopefully more exposure to your shops will be seen.
DeleteThanks for your article. I wonder why you say: However if you are a shopkeeper selling from an online print on demand store with no overhead because it is your design on a product, then this would not necessary be ideal for you to do.
ReplyDeleteI am a designer on a POD website. In my opinion, even Wanelo will get 10% cut, at least it is a sale. I wonder if Polyvore will get profit cut or not.
I am on Wanelo for some time and just joined Polyvore. Based on my short time experience, I do feel people on Polyvore seems more active. On Wanelo, I do get some people save my products but no any comments. Obviously, I will feel more glad to see comments. On Polyvore, I feel more welcomed. I will see if my sales will be different in the coming future.
I do see a good deal of traffic on Polyvore. But I have not seen an increase in sales on Zazzle. This may change.
